Sometimes, the most profound experiences aren’t the ones you plan—they are the ones that find you. We recently had a pretty good day here at Timber Valley Retreat, and it reminded us why we love this land so much. Living and working on a 100-acre farm near DC, VA, PA, and WV means every day holds the potential for a small miracle if you just keep your eyes open.
The Story of the Three Antlers 🦌
We were out doing farm chores on Saturday and we found one antler. It was an exciting start to the morning! Then, we made our second trip back in the farm and found the second antler. At that point, the chores could wait. We stopped working and we started looking, and we found a third antler!
Thank you God for the opportunity to just take it all in and enjoy these special moments. It is the simple things that make you smile. This is exactly what we mean when we talk about the spirit of Timber Valley Retreat—it’s a place where you can slow down enough to notice the treasures hidden in the grass.

It’s a nostalgic journey through the fields that connects you to the rhythm of farm life, and you never know what wildlife you might spot along the way!
3. Proximity to the Majestic Potomac River
The Potomac River, “The Nation’s River,” flows 383 miles from the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay, forming borders for Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. It serves as a vital waterway for history, recreation, and wildlife. When you have a pretty good day here, it often includes a trip to the Potomac for hiking or paddling. Its scenic beauty and historical significance make it a cornerstone of our local community.
Adventure on the C&O Canal
Just down the road from Timber Valley Retreat is the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The towpath is a treasure in itself, offering miles of trails for those who love to explore. It’s part of what makes our location so special for hikers and history buffs alike.
