❤️ 9 Heartwarming Reasons Family Time Is Priceless at Our Retreat

A Legacy of Love in the Mountains

There are moments in life that cannot be measured by a clock or a bank account. We had a great reminder of this this weekend when four generations were staying with us. Seeing a family span nearly a century of life, all gathered under one roof in the Appalachian foothills, reminds us why we do what we do. At Timber Valley Retreat, we believe that Family Time Is Priceless, and providing the setting for these connections is our greatest honor. Whether you are traveling from DC, VA, PA, or WV, our farm is a place where time slows down so memories can catch up.

1. Celebrating Four Generations Together

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly Bill’s Time at Timber Valley Retreat. At 92 years young, Bill enjoyed every minute with family that he does not get to see often. Watching him interact with his great-grandchildren was a beautiful sight that made the entire stay worthwhile for everyone involved. It serves as a powerful reminder that our Timber Valley Retreat Campgrounds are accessible and welcoming for every age, from the toddlers in the sandbox to the patriarch of the family.

2. Capturing Memories in the Wildflowers

We even got to spend time with them so that we could take the family pictures of them in the wildflowers and sunflowers. Having a professional-grade natural backdrop makes a world of difference when capturing these milestones. From posing by our iconic farm sign to laughing amidst the blooms, these photos will serve as a lasting testament that Family Time Is Priceless. You can see the beauty of our seasonal blooms in our photo gallery.

3. Warm Family Hospitality from Karen and Tom Grosh 🤝

As your hosts, Karen and Tom Grosh treat every group like an extension of our own family. We provide family hospitality that focuses on the details that matter—like helping you find the perfect lighting for a group photo or ensuring the bonfire is ready for evening stories. Supporting a small family owned and operated business means you aren’t just a guest; you are a part of the farm’s history. Read more about our family mission.

4. The Majestic Potomac River: A Natural Bound

The Potomac River, often called “The Nation’s River,” flows 383 miles from the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. It forms the natural borders for Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C., much like a family bond forms the borders of our lives. It is a vital waterway for history, recreation (hiking, paddling), and wildlife. During Bill’s Time at Timber Valley Retreat, the quiet proximity to the river provided a peaceful atmosphere for the family to reconnect. Check the Maryland DNR Fisheries for local nature facts.

5. Stepping Back in Time on the C&O Canal

Just a stone’s throw away lies the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The flat, shaded towpath is the perfect place for a multi-generational stroll. It allows family members of all fitness levels to enjoy the outdoors together. Exploring the historic locks is a great way to bridge the gap between Bill’s generation and the great-grandkids. Visit the National Park Service to plan your walk.

6. Adventure on a Traditional Wagon Ride

One of our favorite ways to bring families together is our traditional Wagon Ride. It is a slow-paced, nostalgic journey through our 100-acre farm. For someone like Bill, it’s a comfortable way to see the beauty of the Maryland countryside, and for the kids, it’s a thrilling adventure. It’s an essential part of why Family Time Is Priceless here.

7. The Serenity of the Spring Fed Pond

Our Spring fed pond offers a moment of absolute stillness. The water is clear, cool, and constantly refreshed by natural underground springs. It’s a wonderful spot for a quiet conversation or for teaching the younger generation how to skip a stone. This tranquil environment is a staple of our Premier Glamping Western Maryland experience.

8. Sightings of the Majestic Bald Eagle 🦅

Nature often provides the best entertainment. A Bald Eagle visits the farm often, soaring high above the valley. During Bill’s Time at Timber Valley Retreat, the family had the chance to look up and see this powerful symbol of freedom. It’s a reminder of the raw beauty we preserve here in Washington County. We remember Bill’s Time at Timber Valley Retreat

9. A Central Hub for the Tri-State Region

Our location makes it easy for family members to converge from all over. We are close to:

  • Pennsylvania (PA): Just a short drive from the north.
  • West Virginia (WV): Located just across the river.
  • Virginia (VA) & DC: An easy escape for those in the metro areas.

Can We Help You Get Your Family Together?
