Morning: Adventure on the Towpath (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Kick off your day with an active dose of nature, taking advantage of the retreat’s fantastic location:
- Towpath Exploration: You’re located just off the C&O Canal at Mile Marker 108, making it the perfect spot for hiking or biking. Grab your gear and hit the historic towpath.
- River Access: The Potomac River is only a 3-minute walk away! The river is excellent for swimming, fishing, or getting on the water with your own equipment for tubing or kayaking/canoeing.
- On-Site Fun: Before lunch, gather the group for the Timber Valley Retreat Scavenger Hunt (ask Tom for copies!). For younger guests, the dedicated playground and large sandbox provide hours of fun. Don’t forget to take the paddleboat out on the spring-fed pond.
Afternoon: Relax & Refresh (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
After an adventurous morning, it’s time to recharge and soak in the serene environment:
- Picnic Lunch: Head back and utilize the picnic areas for a relaxed, outdoor lunch.
- A Cool Dip: On a hot day, there’s nothing better than a refreshing swim in the spring-fed pond—it’s a favorite among past guests. You can rinse off afterward in the unique outdoor shower.
- Serene Downtime: Enjoy quiet, quality time together. The large deck, with seating for many, is ideal for a board game tournament, reading a book, or simply wildlife watching on the expansive 100-acre farm. Keep your eyes peeled for local creatures!
Evening: Campfire & Constellations (5:00 PM – Bedtime)
The fun isn’t over when the sun goes down—it’s time for a classic group gathering:
- Group Feast: The full summer kitchen is equipped with two refrigerators, a stove, an oven, and a microwave, making it easy to prepare a memorable cookout or large family meal.
- Classic Campfire: As dusk settles, gather around the huge fire pit. This is the ultimate spot for roasting hot dogs, making mountain pies, and, of course, the grand finale: s’mores! Share stories and laughs under the open sky.
- Stargazing: Being away from the city lights, the sky above Timber Valley Retreat is fantastic for stargazing. Take a moment to lie back, search for constellations, and appreciate the unspoiled night sky.
